Against the Storm on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Against the Storm layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version. It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. The game has no controller support of its own (Steam lists none), so even a stream that passes your pad needs a layout: this one sends the mouse and keyboard.

Yes, Against the Storm plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own, but only with a layout like this one: the game has no controller support of its own. It is a city builder on a timer, and the timer is why pause is the big button. The rest is the builder layout: pointer, pan, place on a trigger, zoom on the bumpers.

The layout, control by control

Click a control. Labels:

How the layout thinks

  • Pointer. The left stick moves the pointer at speed 16.
  • Pan. The right stick pans with W, A, S and D.
  • Click. The right trigger places and selects (left click), the left trigger cancels and rotates (right click).
  • Zoom. The bumpers scroll the mouse wheel: the left zooms out, the right zooms in.
  • Time. Pause on the bottom face button (Space), speeds one, two and three on the right, left and top (1, 2, 3). Menu on Start (Escape).

Pause is the big button, because the storm never waits.

Tune it

  • A slow pointer for the dense panels. Duplicate the four left-stick rows, set While also holding to a spare button on the copies, and give them half the speed.
  • Orders and trade. The D-pad is empty. Put their keys there.

Check that it works

Steam lists no controller support, so even a stream that passes your pad needs this layout, and nothing doubles.

  • You: Start the stream, then press Activate on this preset.
  • InputConfig: Sends the clicks, scrolls and keys in the table.
  • Check: Push the left stick and the pointer moves. Press the bottom face button and the game pauses.

If the pointer moves and Space pauses, the layout is working.

Against the Storm controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists no controller support for Against the Storm, so it was made for a keyboard and mouse, and that is how it expects to be played. A controller still works: this layout sends the game's keys and mouse movement from the pad, so to the game you are simply typing and pointing.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Against the Storm

When Against the Storm does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Against the Storm is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
  3. Stop looking for a setting. Against the Storm reads the keyboard and mouse here, so no option makes it see a pad. Activate this layout, and the controller sends the keys and mouse movement Against the Storm already reads. The layout works without Against the Storm ever seeing the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Against the Storm and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Against the Storm controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Against the Storm's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Against the Storm run on a Mac?

Against the Storm does not run natively on a Mac. It streams from a Windows PC you own. It has no controller support of its own, so this layout is how a pad plays it.

Does Against the Storm have controller support?

No. Steam lists no controller support, and the game is played with a mouse and keyboard. This layout fills the gap: the left stick is the pointer, the right stick pans, the right trigger places and selects, the left trigger cancels, the bumpers zoom, and pause and the three speeds sit on the face buttons.

Can I play Against the Storm on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Against the Storm runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.

Does Against the Storm run in CrossOver on a Mac?

I have not tested Against the Storm in CrossOver. CodeWeavers keeps a compatibility list where players report how each Windows game runs. If it runs and the controller is not seen, this layout plays it from the keys and mouse.
