Inscryption on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Inscryption layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: Native on macOS, Apple silicon included, from Steam, GOG, or the Mac App Store. Steam lists no controller support for it and PCGamingWiki reports none on PC, so this layout is the way to play it from a pad.

Yes, you can play Inscryption on a Mac with a controller, through this layout. It is a card game played on a table you can also get up from, and both halves are a cursor. The left stick is that cursor, the big button plays a card, the right bumper rings the bell, and the right stick walks you around the cabin when Leshy lets you. It is a good sofa game, and this is how it gets there.

How the layout thinks

  • Point. The left stick moves the cursor.
  • Play cards. Select, play and drag (left click) are the bottom face button. Inspect and back (right click) are the left face button.
  • End the turn. The right bumper rings the bell (Space).
  • Look around. The top and right face buttons pan the camera up and down (the scroll wheel). The right stick walks and looks in the cabin (W, A, S and D).
  • Menu. Options and Back are both Escape.

The bell is a bumper, so ending a turn is a finger, not a trip across the table with the cursor.

Tune it

  • Drag. Hold the bottom face button and move the stick, and cards drag.
  • A slow cursor. The card sigils are small. Add left stick rows at half the Speed as chords on a stick click. Both are free.

A half-speed cursor makes the small sigils easy to inspect.

The short version

  • Activate it. The game reads no controller, so nothing doubles.
  • No mod needed. The game sees a mouse and a keyboard, so nothing inside it changes and nothing breaks on an update.

Inscryption has no controller support of its own, so this layout is it.

Inscryption controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists no controller support for Inscryption, so it was made for a keyboard and mouse, and that is how it expects to be played. A controller still works: this layout sends the game's keys and mouse movement from the pad, so to the game you are simply typing and pointing.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Inscryption

When Inscryption does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Check the Steam Input setting for Inscryption. In Steam, open Inscryption, Properties, Controller, and change the Steam Input override. A controller that works in Steam but not in the game goes through each choice.
  3. Stop looking for a setting. Inscryption reads the keyboard and mouse here, so no option makes it see a pad. Activate this layout, and the controller sends the keys and mouse movement Inscryption already reads. The layout works without Inscryption ever seeing the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Inscryption and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Inscryption controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Inscryption's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Inscryption on Mac support controllers?

Steam lists no controller support, and PCGamingWiki reports none on PC. This layout plays the mouse game from a pad.

Is there a controller mod for Inscryption?

You do not need one on a Mac. This layout turns the controller into the mouse and keyboard the game already reads, so nothing inside the game changes and nothing breaks on an update.
