Farthest Frontier on a Mac with a controller
The Farthest Frontier layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version. It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. The stream normally passes a controller to the game's native scheme.
Yes, Farthest Frontier plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own, and possibly through CrossOver. This layout is for a stream that misses your pad, and it is a builder layout: pointer, pan, place on a trigger, pause and speeds on the face buttons. Nothing in it is fast. A stream is fine.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Pointer. The left stick moves the pointer at speed 16.
- Pan. The right stick pans with W, A, S and D.
- Click. The right trigger places and selects (left click), the left trigger cancels and rotates (right click).
- Zoom. The left bumper zooms out and the right zooms in, with the mouse wheel.
- Time. Pause on the bottom face button (Space), speeds one, two and three on the right, left and top (1, 2, 3). Menu on Start (Escape).
Place with the right trigger and pause with the big button, and a town grows.
Tune it
- A slow pointer for the field planner. Duplicate the four left-stick rows, set While also holding to a spare button on the copies, and give them half the speed.
- Build menu. Both stick clicks are empty. Put its key on one.
The crop rotation panel is the one thing that wants a slow pointer.
If the game sees the pad
A stream normally passes your controller to Farthest Frontier's own scheme, and in CrossOver, where keys get through more reliably than pads, this layout is the fix.
Farthest Frontier controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists no controller support for Farthest Frontier, so it was made for a keyboard and mouse, and that is how it expects to be played. A controller still works: this layout sends the game's keys and mouse movement from the pad, so to the game you are simply typing and pointing.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Farthest Frontier
When Farthest Frontier does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Farthest Frontier is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
- Play it from keys. If Farthest Frontier still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Farthest Frontier already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Farthest Frontier ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Farthest Frontier and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Farthest Frontier controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Farthest Frontier's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

| Controller | Sends | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Left stick left | Mouse motion left (speed 16) | Cursor left |
| Left stick right | Mouse motion right (speed 16) | Cursor right |
| Left stick up | Mouse motion up (speed 16) | Cursor up |
| Left stick down | Mouse motion down (speed 16) | Cursor down |
| Right stick left | A | Pan left (A) |
| Right stick right | D | Pan right (D) |
| Right stick up | W | Pan up (W) |
| Right stick down | S | Pan down (S) |
| Right trigger | Left click | Place / select (left click) |
| Left trigger | Right click | Cancel / rotate (right click) |
| LB / L1 | Scroll down | Zoom out |
| RB / R1 | Scroll up | Zoom in |

| B / Circle | 1 | Speed 1 |
| X / Square | 2 | Speed 2 |
| Y / Triangle | 3 | Speed 3 |

Names follow the editor's Xbox / PlayStation pair, and a Switch pad fires by position.
Questions
Does Farthest Frontier run on a Mac?
Farthest Frontier does not run natively on a Mac. It streams from a Windows PC you own, and the stream usually passes a controller through.
Can I play Farthest Frontier on a Mac with CrossOver?
Whether it runs depends on the game version and your Mac, so check CodeWeavers' compatibility reports first. If it runs and your controller does not show up, this layout is the fix: CrossOver passes keys and the mouse to Windows games reliably and controllers less so. The CrossOver controller page explains why.
Can I play Farthest Frontier on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Farthest Frontier runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
