Metaphor: ReFantazio on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Metaphor: ReFantazio layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version, and it is not in GeForce NOW's or Xbox Cloud Gaming's library (checked September 2026). It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. The stream normally passes a controller to the game's native scheme.

Yes, Metaphor: ReFantazio plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own. It is turn-based, so a stream's latency never costs you a fight. This layout is for a stream that misses your pad, and it is a JRPG layout: confirm and cancel on the face buttons, run on a bumper, menus on the D-pad.

The layout, control by control

Click a control. Labels:

How the layout thinks

  • Move. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D.
  • Camera. The right stick turns the camera with keys: J and L for left and right, I and K for up and down. Zoom out on the left stick click (X), in on the right (Z).
  • Face buttons. Confirm on the bottom (E), cancel on the right (C), analyze on the left (Ctrl), reset camera on the top (R).
  • Shoulders. Run on the right bumper (Shift), page left on the left (Q).
  • Menus. The D-pad moves through menus with the arrow keys. Menu on Start (Tab), map on Back (M).

Confirm and cancel sit where a JRPG player expects them.

Tune it

  • Fast forward. Neither stick click is free, so give the fast forward key a chord row for the long dungeons.
  • Squad actions. Put them on chord rows too, held with a spare button.

A chord gives the long-dungeon keys room without moving the camera zoom.

If the game sees the pad

Metaphor: ReFantazio has full controller support, so use its own scheme with this preset off when your pad comes through, and settle on one input path before the first dungeon.

If your controller is not working in Metaphor: ReFantazio

When Metaphor: ReFantazio does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Metaphor: ReFantazio, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
  3. Play it from keys. If Metaphor: ReFantazio still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Metaphor: ReFantazio already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Metaphor: ReFantazio ever sees the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Metaphor: ReFantazio and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Metaphor: ReFantazio controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Metaphor: ReFantazio's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Metaphor: ReFantazio run on a Mac?

Metaphor: ReFantazio does not run natively on a Mac, and it is not in GeForce NOW's or Xbox Cloud Gaming's library. It streams from a Windows PC you own.

Is Metaphor: ReFantazio better with a controller or keyboard?

Either works, because the battles are turn-based and nothing is timed to the frame. The game has full controller support, and a pad is the comfortable way for long sessions. On a Mac over a stream, use the game's own scheme when your pad comes through, and this layout when it does not.

Can I play Metaphor: ReFantazio on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Metaphor: ReFantazio runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
