Ori and the Will of the Wisps on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Ori and the Will of the Wisps layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version. Xbox Cloud Gaming carries it in a Mac browser (checked September 2026), and it streams from a Windows PC you own. Both normally pass a controller to the game. It also runs on Apple silicon through CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit, where the controller is often not seen. This layout sends keyboard and mouse.

You can play Ori and the Will of the Wisps on a Mac with a controller through Xbox Cloud Gaming in a browser, a stream from a Windows PC, or CrossOver and the Game Porting Toolkit. There is no Mac version. Streams normally pass the pad to the game. The wrappers are where it goes missing.

This layout is the keyboard Ori from a controller. It is fine, the game feels good on it, and the bash on the left trigger with the right stick aiming is nearly the native experience.

The layout, control by control

Click a control. Labels:

How the layout thinks

  • Move. The left stick moves and aims up and down.
  • Jump and dash. Jump on the bottom face button, dash on the right.
  • Attack and bash. Attack on the right trigger, bash and aim on the left.
  • Abilities. Two spirit abilities on the left and top face buttons (E and Q), grab and interact (R) on the left bumper. Escape on Options.

Bash on a trigger keeps your thumbs free to aim it.

Tune it to how you play

  • Bash aim. The bash direction is the mouse. Add the right stick as Mouse Motion at a moderate speed, so bashing aims with the stick.
  • Third ability. The game has three slots, and the right bumper is free.
  • Burrow and glide. They use the same keys as dash and jump, held, so there is nothing to add.
  • Map. Put Tab on the touchpad press.

If a stream or wrapper does pass your pad, use the native controls and leave the preset off, so a press does not arrive twice. Add the right stick as mouse motion first, because it is what makes bashing feel right.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists full controller support for Ori and the Will of the Wisps, so the game was made to be played on a controller, menus included. A keyboard and mouse work as well, and the choice is yours. On a Mac, use the game's own controller support first when it sees your pad. This layout is for a pad it does not see, or for buttons it will not let you move.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Ori and the Will of the Wisps

When Ori and the Will of the Wisps does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Ori and the Will of the Wisps, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
  3. Expect less inside a wrapper. In CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit, Wine passes a controller to Ori and the Will of the Wisps only some of the time, and the keyboard and mouse get through every time. Using a controller with CrossOver games has the checks.
  4. Play it from keys. If Ori and the Will of the Wisps still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Ori and the Will of the Wisps already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Ori and the Will of the Wisps ever sees the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Ori and the Will of the Wisps and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Questions

Does Ori and the Will of the Wisps run on a Mac?

Ori and the Will of the Wisps does not run natively on a Mac. Xbox Cloud Gaming carries it in a Mac browser, it streams from a Windows PC, and CrossOver and the Game Porting Toolkit run it. This layout is for the wrappers that do not pass the controller.

Can I play Ori and the Will of the Wisps on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Ori and the Will of the Wisps runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
