Enter the Gungeon on a Mac with a controller
The Enter the Gungeon layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: Steam lists Enter the Gungeon for Windows and Linux only today, with full controller support. On a current Mac it means a stream from a Windows PC you own, or the Windows build in a compatibility layer. This layout sends keys and the mouse, so it works with either.
You can play Enter the Gungeon on a Mac with a controller as a stream from a Windows PC you own, or as the Windows build in a compatibility layer such as CrossOver. Steam now lists Windows and Linux only. How well it runs in a layer is something to test on your own Mac.
Either way, the controller can get lost on the way. This layout sends the mouse version's keys and pointer instead, which every route passes, and the mouse version aims with a real crosshair, which some players find more precise than a stick direction.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move and aim. The left stick moves (W, A, S and D). The right stick moves the crosshair.
- Fire and roll. The right trigger fires (left mouse button) and the left trigger dodge-rolls (right mouse button), so a finger rolls while the thumb keeps aiming. The left stick click rolls too.
- Face buttons. Use active item (Space) on the bottom, interact (E) on the right, reload (R) on the left, and blank (Q) on the top.
- Guns and menu. The bumpers switch guns. Start opens the menu.
Rolling on a trigger means you never stop aiming to dodge.
Tune it to how you play
- Blanks without looking. A blank saves a run, and the top face button is a reach mid-fight. Duplicate the blank row onto the right stick click or a back paddle.
- Crosshair speed. Faster than a shooter: try the Aggressive curve on the right stick rows, so small pushes stay fine and full pushes cross the room.
- Map. Put Tab on Back or the touchpad press.
A second blank button is the change that saves the most runs.
Streams, layers, and Exit the Gungeon
- Streams. Stream clients pass keyboard and mouse to the PC, and this layout turns the controller into exactly that on the Mac side. If the stream does pass the pad, use the game's own support and leave the preset off, so a press does not arrive twice.
- Exit the Gungeon. The spin-off is on the App Store. It is a different game, and if it reads your controller you do not need this layout for it.
Keyboard and mouse get through every route, which is why this layout works where the pad does not.
Enter the Gungeon controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists full controller support for Enter the Gungeon, so the game was made to be played on a controller, menus included. A keyboard and mouse work as well, and the choice is yours. On a Mac, use the game's own controller support first when it sees your pad. This layout is for a pad it does not see, or for buttons it will not let you move.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Enter the Gungeon
When Enter the Gungeon does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Enter the Gungeon is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
- Play it from keys. If Enter the Gungeon still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Enter the Gungeon already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Enter the Gungeon ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Enter the Gungeon and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Enter the Gungeon controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Enter the Gungeon's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions
Can you play Enter the Gungeon on a Mac?
Not as a native Mac game from Steam today: the store lists Windows and Linux only. On a Mac it means a stream from a Windows PC you own, or the Windows build in a compatibility layer.
Does this layout work through a stream?
Yes. Stream clients pass keyboard and mouse to the PC, and this layout turns the controller into exactly that, on the Mac side.
Can I play Enter the Gungeon on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Enter the Gungeon runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
