Cult of the Lamb on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Cult of the Lamb layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: Native on macOS through Steam, and Steam lists full controller support for it. Use that first. This layout is for a pad the game does not see.

Yes, Cult of the Lamb runs natively on the Mac with full controller support, and both halves of the game, the dungeon crawl and the village, play well on it. If your PS5 or Xbox pad works in it, you are done.

This layout is the keyboard version from a controller, for the pad the game does not pick up. It is small on purpose: the crusades only need movement, two attacks, a roll and an interact button, and the rest of the pad is left free for what you want to add.

If the game does not see your pad

Climb this ladder, smallest step first:

  1. Check the Mac. Open Game Controllers in the System Settings sidebar and press a button there. If nothing lights, pair the controller again before going further.
  2. Relaunch with the pad awake. Quit the game, press a button on the pad, and launch again, since some games only look for controllers at start-up.
  3. Change Steam Input. On Steam, change the Steam Input override for Cult of the Lamb under Properties, Controller. Why that switch matters.
  4. Send keys. Pick Cult of the Lamb in the Smart Preset Maker and press Activate.

If the game later reads the pad too, use one or the other, so a press does one thing.

How the layout thinks

  • Move and aim. The left stick is W, A, S and D. The right stick moves the mouse left and right at 16, which aims the curses.
  • Fight. The right trigger attacks (left mouse button). The left trigger casts a curse (right mouse button).
  • Face buttons. Roll (Space) on the bottom, interact with followers and buildings (E) on the top, use an item (R) on the left.
  • Menu. Start opens the menu.

A small layout on purpose: the free buttons are yours.

Make it yours

  • Aim up and down. The layout only aims sideways. Add two rows for the right stick up and down that send mouse motion at the same speed, and curses go wherever you point.
  • Repeat for the dagger. Set the attack row to Repeats while held for weapons that want fast taps.
  • The village. Base building is mostly pointing at things. Lower the Pointer speed slider on the preset's page while you build, and raise it again for a crusade.
  • Map and the rest. Back, the bumpers and the D-pad are free. Give them whatever keys the game's controls screen lists for the things you reach for.

Add up and down aim first, and curses go exactly where you point.

Cult of the Lamb controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists full controller support for Cult of the Lamb, so the game was made to be played on a controller, menus included. A keyboard and mouse work as well, and the choice is yours.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Cult of the Lamb

When Cult of the Lamb does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Check the Steam Input setting for Cult of the Lamb. In Steam, open Cult of the Lamb, Properties, Controller, and change the Steam Input override. A controller that works in Steam but not in the game goes through each choice.
  3. Play it from keys. If Cult of the Lamb still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Cult of the Lamb already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Cult of the Lamb ever sees the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Cult of the Lamb and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

The Sends column is Cult of the Lamb's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.
