Content Warning on a Mac with a controller
The Content Warning layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version (Steam sells it for Windows only). It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. Steam lists partial controller support, so a pad passed through the stream may not cover everything. This layout plays the keyboard controls from a pad.
Yes, Content Warning plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own. Steam lists only partial controller support, so a pad passed through the stream may not cover everything. This layout plays the keyboard controls from a pad. The camcorder is the right trigger: hold it to film, which is what the game is about.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move and look. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D. The right stick moves the mouse at speed 20 across and 14 up and down.
- Film and scan. The right trigger uses the held item, so the camera films (left click). The left trigger opens the scanner (right click).
- Face buttons. Jump on the bottom (Space), crouch on the right (Ctrl), grab on the left (E), drop on the top (G).
- Inventory. Slot 1 on the left bumper, slot 2 on Back, slots 3 and 4 on D-pad up and down. D-pad left and right scroll to the previous and next slot. The item special on the right bumper (Q).
- Sprint and menu. Sprint on the left stick click (Shift), because you will be sprinting. Menu on Start (Escape).
Four friends and a stream is fine. Nothing in it is precise. Hold the right trigger and you are filming.
Tune it
- Push to talk. The mic is the other half of the game. Put it on a chord row, or on the empty right stick click.
- Emotes. Put them on chord rows on the D-pad.
Push to talk on the right stick click keeps your friends hearing you.
If the game sees the pad
Content Warning's partial controller support names PlayStation controllers, so where it already reads the pad, turn its controller input off or turn this preset off.
Content Warning controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists partial controller support for Content Warning: it plays on a controller, but some parts, such as a launcher, text entry or a menu, still expect a keyboard or a mouse. This layout sends keys and mouse movement from the pad, which can cover the parts the game's own support leaves out.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Content Warning
When Content Warning does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Content Warning is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
- Play it from keys. If Content Warning still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Content Warning already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Content Warning ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Content Warning and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Content Warning controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Content Warning's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions
Does Content Warning run on a Mac?
Content Warning does not run natively on a Mac. It streams from a Windows PC you own. Steam lists only partial controller support, so this layout plays the keyboard controls from a pad.
Does Content Warning have controller support?
Partly. Steam lists partial controller support, with PlayStation controllers named. For the parts a pad does not reach, this layout sends the keyboard and mouse controls from it, so the whole game plays from the controller.
Can I play Content Warning on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Content Warning runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
Does Content Warning run in CrossOver on a Mac?
I have not tested Content Warning in CrossOver. CodeWeavers keeps a compatibility list where players report how each Windows game runs. If it runs and the controller is not seen, this layout plays it from the keys and mouse.
