Captain of Industry on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Captain of Industry layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version, and Steam lists no controller support for it. It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. The stream takes keyboard and mouse, so this layout is how a pad plays it.

Yes, Captain of Industry plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own, but only with a layout like this one: Steam lists no controller support. It is a factory on an island, and the layout is Factorio's: pan on one stick, a cursor on the other, place on a trigger, rotate on a face button. It is the slowest factory game there is, and a stream carries it without a hiccup.

The layout, control by control

Click a control. Labels:

How the layout thinks

  • Pan. The left stick moves the view with W, A, S and D.
  • Cursor. The right stick moves the cursor at speed 16.
  • Click. The right trigger mines and places (left click), the left trigger picks up and interacts (right click).
  • Face buttons. Inventory on the bottom (E), rotate on the right (R), clear the cursor on the left (Q), the filter on the top (F).
  • Toolbar and menus. Toolbar 1 to 4 on the D-pad. The tech tree on Back (T), the map on the PS or Guide button (M), menu on Start (Escape).

Rotate is a face button, so a conveyor turns without leaving the stick.

Tune it

  • A slow cursor. Duplicate the four right-stick rows, set While also holding to a spare button on the copies, and give them half the speed, for the conveyor that has to line up.
  • Copy and paste. Put them on chord rows.

Half-speed cursor rows are what line a conveyor up.

Check that it works

The game has no controller support, so nothing doubles: this layout is the controller.

  • You: Start the stream, then press Activate on this preset.
  • InputConfig: Sends the keys and clicks in the table.
  • Check: Push the left stick and the view pans. Push the right stick and the cursor moves.

If the view pans and the cursor moves, the rest of the layout works.

Captain of Industry controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists no controller support for Captain of Industry, so it was made for a keyboard and mouse, and that is how it expects to be played. A controller still works: this layout sends the game's keys and mouse movement from the pad, so to the game you are simply typing and pointing.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Captain of Industry

When Captain of Industry does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Captain of Industry is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
  3. Stop looking for a setting. Captain of Industry reads the keyboard and mouse here, so no option makes it see a pad. Activate this layout, and the controller sends the keys and mouse movement Captain of Industry already reads. The layout works without Captain of Industry ever seeing the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Captain of Industry and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Captain of Industry controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Captain of Industry's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Captain of Industry run on a Mac?

Captain of Industry does not run natively on a Mac. It streams from a Windows PC you own. Steam lists no controller support, so this layout is how a pad plays it.

Does Captain of Industry have controller support?

Steam lists none, so a stream that passes your pad through still gives the game nothing to use. This layout turns the pad into the keyboard and mouse the game expects: pan on the left stick, a cursor on the right, place on the right trigger, rotate on a face button.

Can I play Captain of Industry on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Captain of Industry runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
