MIDI: Drum Pad preset

Download on the Mac App StoreThis preset ships inside InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

This preset makes four face buttons into four drum pads on MIDI channel 10, the General MIDI drum channel, so any DAW drum kit answers without mapping. Turbo is on for every pad: tap for a hit, hold for a roll at the turbo rate.

Face buttons = drum kit pieces with turbo (hold for rolls), triggers = low tom and crash.

Where it is in the app

It ships in the MIDI & Creative folder of the sidebar. Activate it, or press Edit to see every row. The file below is the same preset, inactive and ungrouped.

6 rows. Button names are the Xbox / PlayStation pair the editor shows; a Switch Pro Controller fires by position. Options are the row settings that differ from the defaults.

Notes

  • Rolls in time. Set the turbo rate to match the tempo: 8 presses a second is sixteenth notes at 120 BPM.
  • Hits you can feel. Haptics pulse on each hit, so a roll is felt in the hands.

Channel 10 is why it plays any DAW drum kit with no mapping.
