Tekken 8 on a Mac with a controller

Download on the Mac App StoreThe Tekken 8 layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version. It streams from a Windows PC you own or a cloud service that carries it, and the stream normally passes a controller.

Yes, Tekken 8 plays on a Mac with a controller, as a stream. When the stream cannot see your pad, this layout sends the keyboard limb keys. Tekken's four buttons are four limbs, and the face buttons are laid out the same way: left punch top left, right punch top right, left kick bottom left, right kick bottom right. The Heat Burst and the 3+4 macro are on the bumpers, and all four limbs are on a trigger for the Rage Art.

How the layout thinks

  • Limbs. Square is 1, Triangle 2, Cross 3 and Circle 4 (U, I, J and K on the keyboard).
  • Movement. The D-pad and the left stick move with the arrow keys. The left stick click taps forward twice, 60 ms apart, for a quick forward dash.
  • Macros. R1 is 1+2, the Heat Burst and forward throw. L1 is 3+4. The right trigger presses all four for the Rage Art, and the left trigger is 2+4, the right throw.
  • Menus. Escape is on Options, and Share sends Tab.

The face buttons are the four limbs in the same places as the game's own diagram.

Tune it

  • Korean backdash. A D-pad is the right tool. Leave the stick for movement if you like, and use the D-pad for the dash.
  • Throw breaks. 1+2 is already on R1, and 2+4 on the left trigger.
  • Your own keyboard binds. If you changed the game's keyboard defaults, change the output of the four limb rows to match.

Backdash on the D-pad, and keep the stick for walking.

With an arcade stick

If macOS lists the stick in System Settings, Game Controllers, let the stream pass it to the game, and keep this preset off so presses do not land twice. If it is not listed, as with most sticks in PC or DirectInput mode, InputConfig reads it anyway: press Scan on each limb row and press the stick button you use for that limb, then put the lever's directions on the movement rows. The lever arrives as a D-pad, so backdashes and diagonals behave as they do on a pad's D-pad. Modes and cables are on arcade sticks on a Mac. A stick the stream cannot see still works through Scan, one limb at a time.

Tekken 8 controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists partial controller support for Tekken 8: it plays on a controller, but some parts, such as a launcher, text entry or a menu, still expect a keyboard or a mouse. This layout sends keys and mouse movement from the pad, which can cover the parts the game's own support leaves out.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Tekken 8

When Tekken 8 does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Tekken 8, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
  3. Play it from keys. If Tekken 8 still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Tekken 8 already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Tekken 8 ever sees the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Tekken 8 and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Tekken 8 controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Tekken 8's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Tekken 8 run on a Mac?

Tekken 8 does not run natively on a Mac. GeForce NOW and a PC stream carry it. This layout is for streams that do not see the pad.

Can I play Tekken 8 on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Tekken 8 runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
