Split Fiction on a Mac with a controller
The Split Fiction layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version. It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own or through a console's remote play. The stream normally passes a controller to the game's native scheme. This layout can drive the second player when the first has the only pad the stream sees.
Yes, Split Fiction plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC or through a console's remote play. It is a two-player game, and this layout's best use is the second player: the stream sees one pad, and InputConfig turns a second into the keyboard for player two. It also covers a stream that misses your pad entirely.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move and camera. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D. The right stick moves the mouse at speed 18.
- Shoot. The right trigger fires (left click), the left trigger aims (right click).
- Face buttons. Jump on the bottom (Space), dodge on the right (Ctrl), melee on the left (V), use and switch on the top (F).
- Shoulders and clicks. Shield on the left bumper (Q), the ability on the right (E). Sprint on the left stick click (Shift), crouch and ground slam on the right (C).
- D-pad and menus. Loadout on D-pad up (G). The map on Back (Tab), pause on Start (Escape).
The second pad becomes player two's keyboard, so two people can play from one stream.
Tune it
- Two players. One preset holds a layout per controller slot, so the pad the stream sees can stay unbound while the second pad sends these keys. Two controllers on a Mac covers the setup.
- Per chapter. Every chapter changes the rules. Add a row for whatever the chapter adds.
Leave the first pad unbound in the preset, or its presses will double.
If the game sees the pad
In Split Fiction, the player whose pad the stream passes plays on it directly, and this layout drives the other player, so no pad reaches the game twice.
Split Fiction controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists full controller support for Split Fiction, so the game was made to be played on a controller, menus included. A keyboard and mouse work as well, and the choice is yours.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Split Fiction
When Split Fiction does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Pair the controller with the Mac first. A streaming app such as Steam Link, Moonlight or Parsec passes on only a controller the Mac already sees, so pair it before you start the stream, then press a button once Split Fiction is running. Streaming PC games to a Mac with a controller has the checks for each app.
- Play it from keys. If Split Fiction still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Split Fiction already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Split Fiction ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Split Fiction and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Split Fiction controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Split Fiction's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions
Does Split Fiction run on a Mac?
Split Fiction does not run natively on a Mac. A PC stream or a console's remote play carries it, and the stream usually passes one controller through. This layout can drive the second player.
Can I play Split Fiction on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Split Fiction runs on the other end, on your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
Does Split Fiction run in CrossOver on a Mac?
I have not tested Split Fiction in CrossOver. CodeWeavers keeps a compatibility list where players report how each Windows game runs. If it runs and the controller is not seen, this layout plays it from the keys and mouse.
