Green Hell on a Mac with a controller
The Green Hell layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version. GeForce NOW lists it, and it can stream from a Windows PC you own. Both normally pass a controller to the game's own scheme.
Yes, Green Hell plays on a Mac with a controller, through GeForce NOW or a stream from a Windows PC. This layout is for a stream that misses the pad. Green Hell is the survival game about noticing things, so the notebook, the inventory and the GPS get buttons of their own instead of hiding in a menu.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move and look. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D. The right stick moves the mouse at speed 20 across and 14 up and down.
- Act. The right trigger attacks, chops and places (left click). The left trigger blocks or toggles place mode (right click).
- Face buttons. Jump on the bottom (Space), crouch on the right (Ctrl), take on the left (E), inventory on the top (I).
- Build. Rotate a structure left on the left bumper (Q) and right on the right bumper (R). Cancel a structure on D-pad left (X).
- Survive. Lighter on D-pad down (L), drop the held item on D-pad up (G), the GPS on D-pad right (M).
- Menus. Sprint on the left stick click (Shift), the notebook on Back (B), pause on Start (Escape).
The attack trigger is also the chop and the place, which is how the game itself works.
Tune it
- A slow pointer for the backpack. The backpack is a 3D thing you point at. Duplicate the four right-stick rows, set While also holding to a button on the copies, and give them a low speed.
- A buzz on the take. Turn on Vibrate in the take row's Options, so a pickup is something you feel.
A slower pointer behind one button is the change the inventory needs.
If the game sees the pad
Green Hell's own scheme is the one to use when the stream passes your pad, so keep this preset off then.
Green Hell controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists partial controller support for Green Hell: it plays on a controller, but some parts, such as a launcher, text entry or a menu, still expect a keyboard or a mouse. This layout sends keys and mouse movement from the pad, which can cover the parts the game's own support leaves out.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Green Hell
When Green Hell does not react to your controller on a Mac, check these in order:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Green Hell, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
- Play it from keys. If Green Hell still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Green Hell already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Green Hell ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Green Hell and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Green Hell controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Green Hell's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions
Does Green Hell run on a Mac?
Green Hell does not run natively on a Mac. GeForce NOW lists it, and it streams from a Windows PC you own. Both usually pass a controller through.
Can I play Green Hell on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Green Hell runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
