Built-in preset

Tap the Mac preset

Download on the Mac App StoreThis preset ships inside InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

This preset has two rows and no controller: knock twice on the MacBook's palm rest for Mission Control, three times to start dictation. InputConfig reads the Mac's own motion sensor, ignores typing on purpose, and counts one to five taps. It works only on some MacBooks: tested on M4 MacBooks; it did not work on an M1 Pro in our testing. Desktop and Intel Macs have no sensor. The calibrator's status chip tells you whether yours listens.

Reads the Mac's built-in motion sensor. Taps under a third of a second apart count as one gesture, so tap-tap is a double and a pause starts over. Typing is ignored on purpose.

Where it is in the app

It ships in the Feature Showcases folder of the sidebar. Activate it, or press Edit to see every row. The file below is the same preset, inactive and ungrouped.

2 rows. Button names are the Xbox / PlayStation pair the editor shows; a Switch Pro Controller fires by position. Options are the row settings that differ from the defaults.

Notes

  • Any output. Change either row to a Siri Shortcut, a key or a macro.
  • Where to knock. The Tap the Mac page covers the spot and which Macs have the sensor.

Open the calibrator first. Its status chip says whether your Mac can hear a knock at all.

Download

To add one, drop the file on InputConfig's Dock icon, or see importing a preset. It arrives inactive, and any launch target in it is cleared.
