Modifier Holds preset
This preset ships inside InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
Modifier Holds puts the right-hand modifier keys to work on their own. Hold Right Command for Spotlight (double tap it for Launchpad), hold Right Option to start Dictation, and hold Right Shift for Mission Control.
The Mac's keyboard: the right-hand modifiers, held alone, do more.
Where it is in the app
It ships in the Desktop & Productivity folder of the sidebar. Activate it, or press Edit to see every row. The file below is the same preset, inactive and ungrouped.
Every binding
| Input | Sends | Options | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Key: Command (Right) | nothing on a plain press | hold 450 ms: Spotlight Search; double tap (300 ms): Launchpad | Right Command: hold for Spotlight, double tap for Launchpad |
| Key: Alt / Option (Right) | nothing on a plain press | hold 450 ms: Start Dictation | Right Option: hold to start Dictation |
| Key: Shift (Right) | nothing on a plain press | hold 450 ms: Mission Control | Right Shift: hold for Mission Control |
3 rows. Button names are the Xbox / PlayStation pair the editor shows; a Switch Pro Controller fires by position. Options are the row settings that differ from the defaults.
Notes
- Modifiers keep working. No row fires on a plain press, so Command, Option and Shift still work in every shortcut.
- Timing. The hold is 450 ms and the double-tap window 300 ms. Open a row's Options to change either.
Because nothing fires on a plain press, it never gets in the way of your shortcuts.
